Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Latency Labs LLC ("Latency", "we", "us", or "our") handles information across the Latency platform: the latency.app website and documentation, the Latency iOS app, the Latency API (ws.latency.app), and the Latency console.
The short version: the iOS app works without an account, your bookmarks and history stay on your device, your GPS location never leaves your device, and we do not sell data or run third-party advertising.
1. The iOS app
No account is required. The app does not ask you to register, sign in, or provide any personal details to use it.
Stored on your device only. Your bookmarks, target history, ping history, and settings are stored locally on your device (and shared with the app's widget). They are not uploaded to our servers. Deleting the app deletes them.
Device location (GPS). If you grant location permission, your position is used solely to show your location on the map, on your device. It is never transmitted to Latency or anyone else. The app works without location permission.
Network diagnostics. Interface names, local IP addresses, and connection status shown in the app are read from your device and displayed locally. They are not transmitted.
Latency Intelligence (optional). When enabled, the app contacts our API to provide geolocation, network-operator (ASN), search, and incident features. In doing so we process:
- The hostnames and IP addresses you look up, ping, trace, or run checks against — used to answer the request (geolocation, ASN, status)
- Your device's public IP address — inherent to any internet request; also used to show your approximate location and network on the map
- Search queries you type — used to return suggestions, and retained in aggregate (counts and trends, not profiles) to power popularity features
- Issue reports you choose to submit — the affected domain, the issue category, and any description you write
Latency Intelligence can be turned off in Settings at any time; the app then makes no requests to our API and functions as a purely local network tool.
No tracking. The app contains no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
2. Website and API
Like nearly all internet services, our servers keep standard technical logs — IP address, user agent, request path, and timestamps — used for security, rate limiting, abuse prevention, and debugging. Logs are retained for a limited period and are not used to build advertising profiles.
Public status and inspection pages process the hostname or IP being inspected in order to display results.
3. Console accounts and billing
If you create an account for the Latency console (paid plans), we additionally process:
- Account data — your email address and authentication credentials
- Service data — the monitors, targets, and alert configurations you create
- Billing data — handled by Stripe, our payment processor. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. Stripe's handling of your data is described in Stripe's privacy policy
- Transactional email — trial, billing, and alert notifications you have configured
4. What we don't do
- We do not sell your personal information
- We do not share your data with third parties for their marketing
- We do not run third-party advertising on the app or website
- We do not track your GPS location
5. Sharing
We share data only with service providers necessary to operate the platform — hosting/infrastructure providers and Stripe for payments — under agreements that limit their use of it, or when required by law.
6. Retention
Local app data stays on your device until you delete it (or use Reset All Settings). Aggregated search statistics are not tied to you. Server logs are rotated on a fixed schedule. Account and billing records are kept for as long as your account exists and as required for tax and accounting law.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (e.g. GDPR in the EU/UK, CCPA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. Since the iOS app requires no account, in most cases we hold nothing that identifies you. For console accounts, contact us and we will honour verified requests within the legally required timeframe.
8. Children
Latency is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
9. International transfers
Latency Labs LLC is a United States company; data we process is handled on infrastructure in the United States and other jurisdictions where our providers operate.
10. Changes
We may update this policy as the platform evolves. Material changes will be noted on this page with an updated date, and — for console account holders — communicated by email.
11. Contact
